Hello all,
I’m a novice to the GPlates software and currently utilizing it for my class. I’ve been experiencing a reoccurring issue when running the “Choose Feature” function. When I attempt to select the boundary of any one feature, it refuses to acknowledge the command. It will however populate other features I randomly select and show them in the “clicked” feature list. One instance I was eventually able to select the boundary of my target feature after utilizing the “fill polygons”. This was not a feasible workaround when I was required to select fault/seismic zones for our other assignments. I’ve been communicating with my professor and we’re seeking the GPlates community’s help on solving this predicament.
Hi GeoStudy,
Do you have the same problem mentioned in this thread? That is, when you digitize new points, are they not created at the mouse cursor position?
Also, which GPlates version are you using? And are you using Windows?
If it’s the issue with wrong Qt5 DLLs getting loaded into memory, then GPlates 2.5 has a potential fix for that. Note that the previous solution I mentioned here doesn’t fix it (ie, simply copying “gplate.exe.local” after GPlates has installed won’t work - it has to be part of the GPlates installation - which is the case with GPlates 2.5).
john.cannon,
Thanks for the reply. I am currently operating with the GPlates 2.5.0. I just updated my computer and it operates with Windows v. 10. I’ve also only worked in the 3D orthographic view when attempting any work in GPlates. I’ve not tried to see if the problem persists in a different projection.
Thanks, hmm that’s unfortunate it’s still happening with GPlates 2.5.
Can you try digitizing new points, just to verify the problem? You basically just press the M
key (to switch to the Digitise New Multi-point Geometry
tool) and then click on the globe. It should create a new point right under the mouse cursor. If it doesn’t then that will confirm your issue.
